| Notes | Viewing the races at Parham is helped by a steep natural bank alongside
the finish. The South Downs provide a pretty backdrop. Races start on the
level for the first fence but the second has a catch as the ground starts
to runaway downhill on the landing side. The downhill continues past the
finish and next fence. The low point is between the third and fourth fences
which also means that the going can be soft there whilst the top of the course
is on the fast side. The Open Ditch is at the start of the incline which
then turns into a gentle incline over fences 5 & 6 until the ground levels
off again.
The finish is on a turn so the inside has an advantage going to the last. Soft or heavy going is much more likely than fast. (One of the '98 meetings was abandoned when a heavy downpour meant that swimming was more effective than galloping.) |
