2010 DVDs of South-East Point-to-Point meetings
| Detling - Feb. 14th | All the races from the judges trailer - best I could considering the fog |
| Godstone - Feb. 21st | Pony races, all 7 regukar races, sponsored ride. For Ladies race I managed to get myself stranded in a poor videoing position. |
Background
Two minor problems - i) the official judge obscured my view of the first jump on the far side ( a risk associated with being allowed to video from the judges trailer and ii) Paul Townsley was rather effective at getting the runners off before I arrived at the videoing point (probably old age on my behalf). The master copy of the DVD has been created on my hard disk - and I've now just installed my new DVD writer in the computer -- it works OK. The first three copies will go the usual suspects (as part of my agreement for having the posituion of area video person - 1) the area secretary , 2) the meeting secretary and 3) Martin Harris - the race commentator - who works for Weatherbys Chase and is also the point-to-point unofficial handicapper whose ratings, using the same scale as the BHB, appear in the Weekender. Once those have ben created I will need to run off another dozen to go with me to Godstone. If I'm not sheltering in the changing rooms tent then Kingsley, the clerk of the scales will usually have access to the goods - please do not pester if he is in working status.
Bad news is that my theoretically DVD printing printer seems to have decided to spurt all of its ink to the right of the DVD so they will need to labelled by hand by me. Which then brings us on to the people that want to see Detling but won't make it to Godstone. In previous years I've said post me a cheque and address and I posted back a DVD - or would it make it easier people if I was to make them available through ebay - feedback please.
The cost - well I have to admit that I got into this position because I started videoing my own runners and then a few of my friends asked me to do their own horses - which is one of the reasons that I sometimes run through the whole field rather than just following the leaders. Anyway - I can do individual races or end-of-season compulations on request but generally once a have a master copy of the whole meeting then its easiest for me to just run off copy after copy. Anyway its cost me just over £100 to repair my equipment ready for this season but I'm not looking to make a living out of the process - just cover my costs - most of my customers are those that I like to regard as friends in any case - so I hope that £5 will normally be sufficient - and for a ,by post then £1 more to pay for the paddded envelope and Royal Mails cut.
Details of how the test burns go will appear here on Wednesday morning.
The good news is that the first four DVDs that I have burnt have all been subsequently completely read BY THE SAME COMPUTER THAT CREATED THEM. They are all DVD-R. Rhey will be in the post by the afternoon collection. (Wed. - 13.00)
