Race Reviews
Hunt

5 ran. Altereek (Luke Killgarriff0 was 4/6 fsv. but with the ground good to firm at the top and good to soft at the bottom he, as at Parham, ran in patches depending on the firmness of the ground. Alazylady (Steve Spece) 3/1 and Owenabue Valley (A Vadasz) 5/1 slowly drew away. Despite her trademark of hitting the top of each fifth fence Steve Spice clearly now use the same make of glue as Alex Merriam and drew away over the last half mile - the favourite finishing third.

Restricted

9 ran. Soldershire (Harriet Carroll) opened up odds-on but drifted out to 6/4 and was replaced by Iceni Ruler (Rupert Strearn) 11/8 as favourite. The favourite sustained fatal injuries when slipping on teh flat - rider Rupert being taken to Guildford hospital with concussion and collarbone injuries. Soldershire drew away over the last half mile. Considering that this was a nine year old maiden less than a month ago and the riders fourth ever race it would not be surprising to see this combination competitive in Ladies races next season. Butcher Bayes (Sam Hanson 8/1) won a multi-horse scramble for second.

Mens Open

Cape Stormer (Marcus Gorman 8/11 fav.) made most. Westfield John (James Owen 9/2) and The Grey Baron (Peter Bull 4/1) closed to within a couple of lengths coming up the home straight with the latter getting to just under a length in arrears by the time the post came. 6 ran.

Ladies Open

6 ran - with 4 very close in the betting. Leatherback (Zoe Turner 6/4) going for teh riders four timer in this race. From the North Cotswold Ballyalbert (Hannah Lewis 7/4). At 5/2 the pairing arranged via an 'advert' on this sites message board River Bailiff teamed up with Sarah Ashby. In search of just a placing to take her into the lead in the areas Ladies title chase Hannah Grissell on Lord Euro were 3/1 shots. It was the latter who went clear after the fifth last but he never got the necessary height at the third from home and despite several attempts couldn't get the four feet co-ordinated enough to stay on his feet. Ballyalbert led the trio into the straight and for a start it was River Bailiff that started to close the gap - but, not for teh first time, he found nothing in the last furlong, allowing the favourite through for second.

Maiden

See Red Billdan (Steve Spice 20/1) didn't wait for the other 9 runners in the Maiden. With a mile and a bit completed and a twenty length lead the course layout requires him to run past the horse boxes and then jump the Open Ditch. Already known to make a dive for the box park in previous races - the brakes went on a few strides short of the jump - depositing Steve on the jump with the remainder of the field bearing down. Tuareg (Philip Hall 7/2) came off worst in the ensuing melee. In the end it was the unfancied Delgary Gale (Luke Kilgariff 10/1) that saw off Billy Whitelies (M Carter 12/1)

Confined

Another close betting tie involving the 7 runners- Hot Plunge (James Owen) just fav. at 9/4. Indoux (Cynthia Haydon) traded at 5/2 Balsox (Richard Bandey) at 11/4 and Glory Trail (Hannah Grissell) at 7/2. James opened up a gap on Hot Plunge in the last mile and turning for home it was just a four horse race for the minor placings. Out-and-out stayer Indoux ran on to take second place and the Area Ladies title for Cynthia as Balsox got the better of Glory Trail thus denying Hannah of the third place she needed to share the trophy.
