13h2

With none of the 'big names' competing this looked quite an open race and we had three ponies side by side as they turned into the home straight. Broomells Sandmartin (Emily Featherstone 10/1) was first to give best as they passed the jump in the straight and, in the end it was first time runner Goldsborough Moonlight Mist (Tom Hedgecock 8/1), very sensibly paced by first time racer Tom Hedgecock, that got the best of the more experienced Friday Feeling (Tabitha Worsley 7/1). Another first time runner Blazeby Arno (Clauda Thornett) was well fancied by the punters - backed in heavily from 10/1 to 6/4 fav., ran on well to take fourth and avoiding a second large payout by the bookies, on the ponies, in a week.

14h2

Edward Collins on Verity (5/1) was the one that elected to try to go with The Little Brown Mare (Hector Worsley) and managed to stay within a length until Hector opened up the 1/3 favourite with a quarter of a mile to go. Mallydam Tamzin (Sophie Elliot 33/1) won the three pony battle for third.

Club Members

THE SOUTH EAST HUNTS CLUB MEMBERS CONDITIONS RACE

7 runners went to post for the opener - three of them coming direct from a winning outing. The favourite Perange (Alex Merriam 4/5 fav.) took up the lead with two circuits to go. With a circuit to go just two of the runners had dropped off the leading group. At the third from home still only four lengths covered the leading group of four. Stuart Robinson hit the front on Great Jubilee (7/1) as they reached the second last. Dancing Fosenby (Mike Holdforth 7/2) was now snapping at the heels of the favourite. At the last Great Jubilee rose half a length to the good over his two persuers. In a three horse driving finish Alex got the favourite up for a short head verdict over Dancing Fosenby with Great Jubilee two lengths in arrears.

Restricted

THE RESTRICTED RACE

Only three met the starter for the Restricted. Jazz Attack (Paul Blagg 4/7 fav.) and Alazylady (Steve Spice 4/1) shared the lead for the first two miles. Willy Boy (Chris Gordon 3/1) tucked in a few lengths behind the pair but was never able to make much progress - testing Chris's stickability on a number of occasions. Paul made his move after the seventh from home slowly opening up a eight length lead.. Alazylady reduced the gap to four lengths by the second last but could make no further progress.

Intermediate

THE HISCOX INTERMEDIATE RACE

With a circuit to go Chris Gordon had taken the outsider Sanamour to the front of the five runners. With five to jump the serious opposition behind him was now down to Change The Plan (Marcus Gorman 7/2) who had just overtaken the now under pressure Jac An Ree (Philip Hall 4/5 fav.). Funny Money (3/1) having blundered off pilot James Sarchet at what would be the last next time round. The leader was not helping himself by giving away a length at the each jump - running down to the right each time. Turning to the second last Change The Plan was within a length, Jac An Ree had thrown in the towel. A length was as close as Change The Plan got - the lead extended to four by the line with Colonel Conca (Alex Merriam 10/1) a remote third. (Presumably I missed a rider change as the East Anglian site reckons that he was running there)

Ladies Open

THE ELIZABETH CHAMPION MEMORIAL LADIES OPEN RACE
The race winner qualifies for Huntingdon Hunter Chase on May 16th

Course specialist Cedar Chief (Jenny Gordon 8/1) made the early running for the field of six. Persian King (Anna Sansom 10/1) was giving his rider a torrid time - pulling hard and taking practically every fence by the roots. With a circuit to go Cedar Chief had Carryonharry (Cynthia Haydon 1/2 fav.) snapping at his heels whilst Minino (Caroline Taylor 8/1) had been overtaken by Lord Euro (Hannah Grissell 5/1) for third. Over the last the distances were four and four which was maintained to the line.

Mens Open

THE MARCO WEIGHING SYSTEMS MENS OPEN RACE
The race winner qualifies for Towcester Hunter Chase on May 15th

With a circuit to go no more than four lengths covered all five runners. Favourite Old Kilminchy (Marcus Gorman 11/10 fav.) had opened up a two length lead over Chief Chippie (Luke Kilgariff 10/1) with Indoux (Peter Bull 6/4) and Daretobedifferent (David Evatt 3/1) another five back by three from home. Chief Chippie had given all he had by then and although Indoux ran on as usual Marcus had already stolen too big a lead for it to recoverable.

Maiden

THE GRANTS CHERRY BRANDY MAIDEN RACE (OPEN)
A qualifier (first two home) for the Grants Cherry Brandy Maiden Final at Folkestone

The complexion of the nine runner maiden was seriously altered at the third fence where Cleverest (who unseated at Aldington on Monday) fell - wiping out Withington (Jody Sole 5/1) amd Naranjita (Alex Merriam 18/1) in the process. Normally matching a Novice rider with a Maiden horse is usually seen as a prescription for disaster - but Soldershire (Harriet Carroll 3/1) had a perfect two finishes from two outings record and the pair were happy to issue the come and catch us challenge after the fifth from home. And nothing could respond - Art Expert (Mick Holdforth 18/1) eventually claiming second and May Zee Wong (Paul Blagg 16/1) even longer eventually can claim five finishes from her seven races.

N.b. - I'pm pretty sure it was PleasurePrints in the Horse Box park - but an subject to corerction if necessaryt
