| Ponies | PONY RACING (sponsored by
Wood Evatt & Gardner) -
DISTANCE: 4 furlongs for both races 13:2 ponies - The field of 10 quickly split into two groups.- the leading group of 5 being headed by Frankie Hickman on Tiny Tim. They were joined by Little Tinker (Gemma Cobb) turnng for home and the pair went side by side to the line where Frankie held on by a head. 14:2 ponies - Perfect Pete (Pippa Hawksfield) and Fitzwarren (Oliver Murphy) made the early pace and shared the lead as they turned for home. However the latter was always travelling nicely and quickened away easily - as one would hope from the pony that finished second in last years national final.. The Little Brown Mare (Hector Worsley) & Dalestown Rose (Thomas Cheeseman) ran on up the straight to take second and third places. |
| Hunt | Wellingham Southdown & Eridge Hunt Members, Subscribers & Farmers Race, (kindly sponsored by Ian Askew Esq) Great Jubilee (Stuart Robinson) 1/8 and Irish Sea (Claire Preston) 4/1. They changed leads a few times until Irish Sea cried enough with six fences to go. |
| Confined | The Calcutt Maclean Standen Confined Race (kindly sponsored by Calcutt Maclean Standen) Five runners in the Confined for which Old Kilminchy (Marcus Gorman) was a warm favourite at evens. Magnus Veritas (Stuart Robinson 7/2) & Kenny Davis (Paul Blagg 10/1) made the early pace. Five lengths covering all five as they set out on the last circuit. First Kenny Davis and then No Reward (Philip Hall)dropped off the group. The remaining three were in a line after the fourth from home. Old Kilminchy (5/2) slowly drew away as they turned into the home straight and as he did so Magnus Veritas dropped a length behind Whites Touch (Jody Sole 10/1) as they approached the second last but overtook the grey for second place in the run-in. |
| Ladies Open |
The Highfields Farm Ladies' Open Race, (kindly sponsored by Simon Tindall
Esq) First circuit of the 3 runner Ladies was run at a very gentle pace - eventually Anna Sansom on Exodous (5/1) being persuaded to do the donkey work. The pace picked up as they started the last circuit. The Wiley Kalmuck (Zoe Turner) was the first dropped. Exodous hung on to Millenium Way (Caroline Taylor 1/4 fav.) until they approached the third last. |
| Mens Open |
The Kent Commercials Mens' Open Race (kindly sponsored by John & Margaret
Kent) Second favourite Little Farmer (Philip Hall 3/1) made the early pace in the 5 runner Mens Open. Westfield John (James Owen 10/1) was the first to drop off the pace. By the time they started out on the final circuit Grand Ambition (Tom Copeland 10/1) was also dropping out of contention. As the favourite Cape Stormer (Marcus Gorman 4/5) joined the early leader The Grey Baron (Peter Bull 4/1) had dropped eight lengths behind the leading pair. Cape Stormer had opened up a five length lead before Little Farmer hit the top of the second last ejecting Philip upwards - he then missed the target on the way down and went out the side allowing The Grey Baron through for second with Grand Ambition third. |
| Novice Riders | The Dodson & Horrell PPORA Club Members Novice Riders Only Race, (kindly sponsored by Dodson & Horrell Ltd) Biggest field of the day was the 11 for the Novice riders.Maiden winner here a fortnight ago The Bag Man (Steve Spice 4/1) made the early running. He was joined by Nicodemus (Helen Williams 22/1) after the end of the first circuit. The latter led at the eigth from home but blundered through the top causing the rider to lose her irons which she only regained two fences later. Ironically the horse finished the job for her two fences later when still third. By that stage Avalon Buck (Peter Johnson 11/2) had opened up a three length lead over the others but had nothing left to repel Tim O'Callaghan on the favourite River Bailiff (3/1) as he made his move approaching the second last. Good Vintage (Christie Rogers) took third. |
| Restricted | The CB Richard Ellis/Junction Restricted Race, (kindly sponsored by CB Richard Ellis) Philip Hall took second favourite Tellum Noting 2/1 straight to the lead in the 8 runner restricted. With a circuit to go two of the eight had been dropped out of contention. Saffronto (James Owen 10/1) led the chasing pack three lengths adrift as they went down the back for the last time. Favourite Court Award (Chris Gordon) didn't help his case by belting the fifth from home. However it was only he and Butcher Beyes (Sam Hanson 9/1) that had the favourite under any pressure over the last three but Philip completed a pillar to post victory with Chris holding on to second. |
| Maiden | The Powell & Partner Open Maiden race, (kindly sponsored by Powell & Partner) The five horse maiden saw the return of runners from the Tindall/Gordon yard - second in East Amglia last season Willy Boy being made favourite. Marchants Coco (Peter Bull 10/1) alternately over-jumped and then under-jumped whilst leading for the first circuit. He was joined by Tuareg (Philip Hall 7/2) but four lengths covered the field as they started the last circuit. Jazz Attack (Paul Blagg 10/1) took over the leading as the pace increased on the last circuit. Willy Boy (Chris Gordon 5/4 fav.) led the chasing pack over the fifth last but went back quickly thereafter. Withington (Jody Sole 6/4) moved onto the heels of the leader by the last but could get only a little bit closer with Tuareg holding on to third. |
