| 'Babies' Maiden | They went reasonably steady for the first circuit and a half as a result of which five lengths covered he leading six at the fourth from home. At this fence Saffron Hill (Richard Bandey 5-1), who was second in a 2m4f here last season, led by a length from small but gutsy 4 year old debutante filly River Tigris (Gordon Gallagher 10-1), Selfcertified (Peter Bull 8-1), was two lengths further back in third. Two lengths behind him were Luteur Des Pictons (Phil York 2-1 fav.), Hot Coals (Joe Docker 9-2) and Sharons Delight (Philp Hall 5-1). The first three remained in position over the next two jumps dropping the other three. The, actually only 3 and half year old, 15.3 hand filly just managed to put her nose in front for a couple of strides as they turned the final bend but the gap was back to two and two as they jumped the last. Saffron Hill opened up a four length gap by the time the line came whilst Selfcertified snatched second from the filly on the line. (Ironically Gordon Gallagher, hardly the tallest of men, was only able to reduce the snall fillies's weight by 21lb of the 28lb that she was entitled to claim. Spectator - jockey Ben Hitchcott would have been one of few that could have drawn the 10st weight - but he is professional nowadays). 8 runners. Click here to listen to the race commentary |
| Restricted | Aslapoftheeuro (Phil York 8-1) made the running in the next race. At the top of the hill second time round he had dropped all bar Mon Esprit (Nibby Bloom 7-4 fav.). Mon Esprit got alongside Phil's mount at the fourth last and that was as close as he got. Serious Man (Jody Sole 8-1) and maiden winner here last year Shanghai Moon (Chris Gordon 5-1) were a remote third and fourth. 8 runners. Click here to listen to the race commentary |
| Mens Open | Rhythm King (Godfrey Maundrell 4-5 fav.) and Cape Stormer (Marcus Gorman 6-1) drew away from the others on the second circuit. On turn for home the favourite was opening up a four length gap between the fences but slick fencing by Cape Stormer was reducing the gap to two lengths after each jump. However, after the penultimate fence, Rhythm King just shot away. The Grey Baron (Peter Bull 9-1) ran on from being out at the back on the first circuit to take a very remote third. 7 runners. | Ladies Open | Run at a fast pace by Kirov King (Fiona Hemphill 20-1). Field well spread out going uphill the second time where Millenium Way (Caroline Taylor 4-5 fav.) was able to drop all of the other horses bar Fiery Ring (Jenny Gordon 5-1). The two went side by side from the third last all the way to the finish - both ladies riding like a pair of flat jockeys to the line where Fiery Ring got the nod right to win by a short head. The Wee Bishop (Claire Allen 5-1) was a remote third. 10 runners. Click here to listen to the race commentary |
| Club Conditions | No Reward (Philip Hall 6-1) opened up a five length gap three from home in this race. Sanamour (Chris Gordon 9-4 fav.) had cut the gap to just under a length by the time they reached the last where the leader didn't get enough height - hit the fence and lost all forward propulsion. By the time normal forward motion had been resumed Chris had slipped his mount past and was still a length to the good by the time the post arrived. Supreme Storm (Richard Bandey 6-1) won the battle with Altareek (Gordon Gallagher 18-1) for third. |

Like the winner of the first race Change The Plan (Marcus Gorman 6-4 fav.) had clocked up two runner-up places last season. He easily drew away from the remainder of the field by the time they hit the highest part of the course for the last time of asking. Runner-up Tates Avenue (Chris Gordon 5-2) was already 16 lengths adrift by the time he turned for home and he finished four lengths in front of fast-finishing Texas Red (Dan Drake 20-1). 10 runners. Kelly Keefe who was taken to Ashford hospital after coming off Gola Leader in the fifth race was found to be fine and sent packing.
