Last two races abandoned |
| Restricted | The thirteen runners provided the biggest field of the day. It quickly became clear that only horses which handled the holding going were going to have any success. Significantly course winner here a few weeks ago Jack Hackett (Philip Hall 5/1) was quite happy in this going. Second here in the other half of the split maiden last time Sound Gossin (Andrew Hickman 5/1) was runner-up again. Viking Lily (Didy Rowell 20/1) took third place. The time was 7 minutes 4 secs. |
| Confined | Then it started raining steadily. Enigmatic Physical Fun (Chris Gordon 6/1) decided that he would participate this time - and probably later wished he hadn't. High Learie (Capt. J Barnard 25/1) decided that he could do it all from the front in this ground - and was right - he could. Favourite Peafield (Phil York 6/4) closed a bit on the second circuit but was still 10 lengths adrift at the end. Physical Fun had to settle for a remote third of the 7 starters. |
| Ladies Open | The ladies had 6 starters. Heavy ground winner in 2001 Burntwood Melody (Didi Rowell 2/1) was made favourite. Primitive King (Jenny Grant 3/1) made most and popped the last with a small lead but was caught by the favourite in the run in. Valleys Choice (Susannah Reynoldstown 5/1) took a remote third for the second consecutive week. The race time by now had lengthened to 7 mins 20 secs. |
| Mens Open | The mens had 6 starters. With the ground steadily deteriorating not surprisingly Confined winner at the previous Parham meeting Harding (Chris Gordon 4/6) was a strong favourite. Clearly equipped with the best wellies the race was practically a procession over the last circuit. Legal Storm (Tim Underwood 6/1) was a distance behind in second whilst a further distance behind was Esprit De Cottes (Colin Hall 4/1). The winning time was now 7 mins 29 secs. |
| Maiden | With 8 declared in the maiden parts of the course had became inaccessible to the medical vehicles and the stewards had no option but to call an end to the days proceedings. |
