Hunt

Jenny Grant on Primitive King held a small advantage as part of a group of four until pecking four from home and ejecting her. Tooth Pick (Evens) gave Jamie Hawksfield his second victory in under a week. Mr. Fitz (a maiden winner in 2000 - Keith Culligan 3/1) ran well to take the second spot. It looked as if he would come on for the race and should pick up a Restricted before the end of the season. Nigel Benstead's old campaigner Some Tourist (10/1) took the third spot.

Confined

A winning hurdler owned by Simon Tindall, ridden by Chris Gordon and with good form on soft ground was surprinsingly available at 6/1 in the 6 runner confined. The bookies charitable donations were well received by the punters as Harding turned over Peafield (Phil York 6/4). The favourite Dixons Varner (Frazer Marshall 5/4 fav.) could only manage a remote third.

Restricted

The largest field of the day was the 12 in the Restricted. Maiden winner in East Anglia Flying Veil (Philip Hall 3/1) met Charing maiden winner Lordston (David Dunsdon 6/4 fav.) and the two went clear of the rest three out. Lordston didn't help his chances by pecking at the last and then taking a slight exception at the 'mud track' across the course in the run-in to give the Grissell trained Flying Veil a half length victory. Oxendale (Peter Bull 4/1) made it a hat-trick of Restricted places from three attempts but was 10 lengths adrift of the other two.

Ladies Open

Only three runners for the Ladies and impressive East Anglian Ladies winner Mr. Miller (Caroline Holliday 1/3 fav.) won as he liked with the only other finisher being Just The Business (Olivia Maylem 7/1).

Mens Open

The 6 runner Mens Open had another 1/3 fav. - this time Peter Bull's elderly but still with serious ability - Rightsaidfred. Dramatic Approach (David Dunsdon 9/4) was the only other that tried to go with the favourite on the second circuit but the veteran drew away easily. Distant third was Shuil Daingean (Philip Hall 10/1).

Maiden - Div. 1 The testing going had clearly worried a number of owners of the maidens - only six went to meet the starter. Considerably fewer got to meet the judge - Jack Hackett (Philip Hall 3/1) finishing all by himself. He was one of four horses fancied in the market. One of the others - Lily Brown looked beaten when refusing at the third last. Another well fancied runner Peace Initiative was resultingly brought to a walk - and his rider was unable to convince him that he wanted to come out of it again.
Maiden - Div. 2

The second half brought two more starters - eight this time. However even more dropped by the wayside 'en route'. In the end it brought the closest finish of the day. Some wag suggested that they must have called 'time' at the pensions collection counter as Peter Bull on Larkus Aurelius (Evens fav.) and Andrew Hickman on Sound Gossin (10/1) showed the advantage of decades worth of practising driving finishes with the favourite prevailing by a neck.
