| Hunt | Six runners lined up for the first race at the new course. Leading area rider Chris Gordon was made favourite on Lively Lord. Unfortunately his claim to fame was to be the first rider to inspect the ground at speed as his horse failed to negotiate the first fence correctly. This allowed Philip Hall on last weeks maiden winner Jack Hackett (5/2) to dictate the race. Winner of the first race at Rodmell two years ago the ever-young David Evatt was the only one to give chase on Royal Dew (25/1). A good jump at the third last gave the veteran rider the lead and a sniff of a unique double but the second favourite drew away readily. Ex-Grand National runner Esprit De Cotte (Robin Gurney 4/1) made late progress for third. |
| Restricted | A sensible field of 9 for the Restricted. Chris Gordon was on the favourite again. This time on Rainbow Ranch (6/4). Joe Turner's East Anglian invader Millenium Way (Andrew Sansome 8/1) already had the race sown up when Chris did well to stay on the favourite after a right 'pigs ear' at the second last and a stirrup-less Chris had to give best to Larkus Aurelius (Peter Bull 8/1) on the run-in. |
| Confined | The Confined saw 12 line up. Winner in East Anglia a couple of weeks ago Ballinure Boy (Andrew Hickman 9/4) was made favourite and was always going well. He drew away easily to win from Tom Cobbler (Philip Hall 4/1) and long time leader Kenny Davis (Paul Blagg 14/1). Just to make Chris Gordon's day Physical Fun decided that today was marked down as one of those when he was not going to be co-operative. |
| Ladies Open | Winner at Charing earlier this season Frazer Island (Alex Embiricos 4/5) was the hot favourite in the 10 runner ladies. He took the lead at the fourth from home and quickly went clear. My Wee Man (Julie Wickins 5/1), having his first run since 2000, made good ground at the end of the race for second whilst Burntwood Melody (Didy Rowell 14/1) ran his usual consistent race for third. |
| Mens Open | Brackenheath (Philip Hall 14/1) made all from the front in the 10 horse Mens Open. Favourite Belvento (David Dunsdon 5/4) was already beaten in second place when unshipping David Dunsdon at the second last. The small grey Dom Samourai (Peter Bull 33/1) showed a lot more enthusiasm than of recent to run on for second, just pipping Prime Course (Chris Gordon 33/1) |
| Mares | There were eight declared for the 'Mares'. Lady Dot (Chris Gordon) went a fair lick for the first circuit and the only one that tried to go with her was Acuteangle (Philip Hall 33/1). The fast gallop seemed to have taken it's toll when Lady Dot quickly back-pedalled seven from home. The favourites closed up to the heels of the outsider with four fences to go. However poor jumps from the favourite Allrite Pet (Joe Luck 5/2) kept giving the advantage back and she couldn't peg back the gap. Viking Lily (Didy Rowell 12/1) ran past El Gee in the straight for third. |
| Open Maiden - Div. 1 | The first section of the maiden had 15 runners. Nubro (Andrew Hickman 3/1) was favourite. He had disappointed after a very promising seasonal debut. He was always going best and went to the lead with five to go. Call The Tune (Sergio Gordon-Watson 20/1) came from the chasing pack to take second and Goforitkate (R Cope 5/1) took third. |
| Open Maiden - Div. 2 | Already placed in all three of his runs this season Sound Gossin (Andrew Hickman 11/4) was made favourite. Once again Andrew had everything under control a long way out. Stick Or Bust (Harry Fowler 4/1) was bridesmaid for the second time this season. Tonrin (Phil York 14/1) made use of the course running little more than three miles to finish in third of the 11 starters. |
