Lordston was made the odds-on favourite. However the favourite was never travelling well on the season's first fast going and was pulled up a mile out. This left the only other horse fancied by the punters Larkus Aurelius (Peter Bull 2/1) leading turning from home. However Paul Townsley on El Gee (20/1) made Peter work hard for his victory and was only a neck down at the post. Quick Bowler (Dave Brightling 33/1) was third of the 7 runners.

Maiden

11 runners started the 2m4f youngsters maiden. The betting market was very open with several horses taking a turn as favourite. A few minutes before the race best prices available on the market leaders were Shoveontommy (Stuart Robinson 5/2 jt. fav.) & Storm Rising (Harry Fowler 5/2 jt. fav). Charming Jack, a debutant from the Grissell yard (Philip Hall 3/1) with, up from Bath and a second last time out Barton Saint (Shane Walsh 7/2). The latter looked to be going well when hitting the front turning from home. However he then threw away any chances by being too deliberate over his fences on the way home. Four were still in with a chance two from home. Debutant Chocoholic (Chris Gordon 6/1) put his nose in front turning into the home straight, but, over the last, Shoveontommy's experience got him back up by the finishing post. The other joint favourite Storm Rising dropped back from the other two to finish third.

Mens Open

Betting on the 7 runner Mens Open was also close. Seod Rioga (Chris Gordon 7/4 fav.), Belvento (David Dunsdon 9/4) & Tom Cobbler (Philip Hall 5/2) all had their supporters. Turning for home Belvento's trainers belief that his horse was much happier on the top of the ground was proved to be spot on as his charge won readily. Old stager Seod Rioga held on for second from 2001 United Hunts Novice winner Perky Lad (Phil York 6/1)

Ladies Open

Only 5 runners in the Ladies in which multiple course winner Storm Castle (Julie Wickens) was made 4/7 fav. Second favourite was Over The Country (Sarah Ashby) 4/1. However her challenge came to an end when a mistake shot the rider up the horses neck and unfortunately the bridle became dislodged. Prime Course (Jenny Grant 6/1) tried to put some pressure on the favourite on the way home but, as is often the case, his jumping gave the initiative back to Storm Castle. Docs Dilemma III (Caroline Holliday 8/1) was the distant third.

Club

Biggest field of the day - 12 horses faced the starter. Once again an open betting affair - Listen Timmy (Shane Walsh 2/1 fav.), Oxendale (Peter Bull 5/2), Peafield (Phil York 3/1) & Tooth Pick (Jamie Hawksfield 4/1) being the market leaders. The race was quite competitive with four or five still with a chance turning for home. In the end the old-stager Peafield prevailed. Cheater (L Treadwell 12/1) was the close runner-up with Oxendale continuing his sequence of places in third.

Hunt

Maiden Moon Rising (Peter Bull) was made 5/4 fav. in the betting in front of double winner in 1999 Lovely Lynsey (Sarah Ashby) 3/1. With the favourite giving Peter Bull no chance of keeping the partnership intact when belting the Open Ditch Sarah Ashby nicked the race up the hill on the last circuit. Bavardier (Dave Brightling 10/1) was a well beaten runner-up with Mister Chips (Andrew Hickman 7/2) in third.
