Well - it's not quite Newbury - but it's another winner for the Silks

2m4f Maiden (5, 6 & 7 yrs)

A suprising small field of just 5 'babies' started the proceedings. The unraced Yallah Habibi (Alex Embiricos 2/1 fav.) was made favourite with Shoveontommy (Stuart Robinson 9/4) only slightly less fancied. Turning for home the two market leaders disputed the lead. Racing to the last the debutant slowly drew clear from the Robinson horse with Scotch Bob (Peter Hickman 10/1) taking the third place about 15 lengths in arrears.

Restricted

Winner here a fortnight ago Sheriff's Friend (Chris Gordon Evens fav.) was a strong order with the punters considering that there were 13 lining up in this race. And the punters had clearly read the race right as turning for home the only four horses priced at under 12/1 were the only ones really in contention. The favourite and James Isaac drew clear of the rest of the field going up the hill the second time. Oxendale (Peter Bull 5/1) tacked himself behind the leading two whilst Glenmont (Lisa Stock 6/1) could never get closer than four lengths behind them. James Isaac fell three out and Peter Bull challenged on the run in but couldn't quite close the gap. Glenmont was well clear of the rest in third.

Mens Open

Seod Rioga (Chris Gordon 8/11 fav.) was made favourite. The only other two, from the five runners, fancied by the punters were Wibbley Wobbley (Jamie Hawksfield 5/1) and Brackenheath (Philip Hall 4/1) The latter was probably a longer price than might had been the case had he not had a hard race less than a week earlier. The punters got this right as Brackenheath tired up the hill second time round. Wibbley Wobbley inched his head in front of the favourite going to the second last and a worryingly professional looking Jamie Hawksfield drew ten lengths clear in the end with a tired Brackenheath in third.

Ladies Open

Eight horses lined up for the Ladies race. Clearly Storm Castle's (Julie Wickens 5/4 fav.) poor run a fortnight ago didn't put off the backers who made him a strong favourite. Dragon Lord (Jenny Grant 4/1) who fell when still going well at Cottenham was second in the betting. As is normally the case Burntwood Melody tried to do it from the front and found a willing accomplice in Kincora. The two market leaders tucked themselves in behind the front two for the first circuit. The early pace told going up the hill second time and Dragon Lord led by two lengths turning for home. Storm Castle draw a length clear of Dragon Lord going to the last while Stonesby (S Duckett 10/1) ran past the early leaders to take third.

Moderate

Chris Gordon timed his run to perfection twice in this race. As the starter dropped his flag he had Physical Fun (8/1) cantering in at the back of the field - and this time the crafty sausage decided that he fancied a stroll in the park. Although passing through the starting gate last of the fifteen runners he worked his way to the front by the top of the hill second time round. However it looked as if the 15 lengths start he gave some of the runners might have a price to pay when Cormeen Lord (Alex Merriam 8/1) and Tough Terms (Peter Bull 33/1) passed him in the air at the second last. Cormeen Lord led by two at the last but Chris drove a surprisingly co-operative Physical Fun back up to win by 2 lengths with Tough Terms four lengths behind the two.

Mares

Only four of the nine 'ladies' were seriously fancied and, not surprisingly, Satcatino (Phil York Evens fav.) was made a clear favourite after winning this race last year and running well here a fortnight ago. The runners were well strung out at the top of the hill second time round. Allrite Pet (J Luck 4/1) was tucked in behind the favourite going down the hill - this time a good jump by Satcatino at the second last sealed victory with Viking Lily (Didy Rowell 5/1) taking third.

Club Maiden

With the babies maiden race providing the smallest field of the day the 'seniors' maiden provided the largest with 16 runners. Leading Case (Harry Fowler 5/4 fav.) was the punters choice in this race based on the fact that he looked very short odds to win when falling at the second last on his previous outing. The favourite went quickly clear turning downhill for home. Outsider Gabaka De Thaix (Paul Townsley 20/1) drove up to the tail of the favourite between the last two jumps with The Winkster (Philip Hall 7/2) just behind but could find no more after the last.
