2001 Riders v Owners Cricket Match

Took place at Brightling, Sussex on Saturday June 17th
(courtesy of Gardie & Di Grissell)

Despite torrential rain at lunchtime the match started just half an hour late. The 'non riders' (owners, officials etc.) batted first and accumulated 172 runs from their 25 overs. The riders started well but some very tight bowling by the sons of Bexhill secretary Ana West pinned the riders down in the middle of their innings and despite some bat flailing at the end of the game the riders came up 8 runs short at 164.

Riders wicketkeeper Stuart Robinson whips off Jeremy Wall's bails after he strays too far up - the video evidence proves the umpire right Jeremy!

Son of top class jockey passes son of not quite so famous p-t-p rider. The heights deceive as to which is which as Nick Gifford (left) and Charlie Hawksfield pass as the riders clock up another run.

Charlie looks quite professional as he completes another stylish shot.

Charlie's dad - rider/owner Jamie shows his son how it is supposed to be done!

Peter Hickman scrambles another single in the late run chase.

The players traipse off at the end of the day.

The site editor is sure that all the players, umpires, scorers and spectators would like to pass on their thanks to the ladies who kindly supplied them with inter innings & post match food & drink - Jane Hickman, Ana West & Caroline Holliday.
